Mother's Day!] This meeting had Anne Weston showing us how to use a half cone stick [also known as a shoe] to create 3-D foxgloves using metallic threads, although as beginners, we practiced on normal thread first, so we could get the hang of it:

<img style="float: left; Starting at 10:00, the morning will be a goldwork-related enjoyable activity [last time we unpicked some pieces of goldwork, a couple of which were very old, to see how they had been made up. It almost felt criminal to do this to such old pieces, but it was really interesting and we all learnt a great deal].

The proper meeting will start at 14:00. If you wish to attend the whole day, the cost will be £12.00. To attend just the meeting in the afternoon, the cost is £8.00. Tea/coffee and naughty cakes will be provided. For lunch, there are venues nearby.

This will all take place at Whitminster Hall, Gloucestershire. For full details contact Janice Williams, or Miranda Clarke, or visit the Goldworkguild website at http://www.thegoldworkguild.co.uk/ .

Goldwork Guild Magazine Issue 4 Now Available

The Goldwork Guild Magazine, Issue 4 is now available and I believe is the best issue yet. There is plenty in there to get you thinking and a nice centre spread of our 'experimentation' using some unusual metallic materials in alternative ways, that took place at the last Goldwork Guild meeting at Whitminster, Gloucestershire in April 2009. A question is posed at the bottom of this: Is this Goldwork? And, is there a place for this type of approach in contemporary work? Answers gratefully recieved on these questions!

There is a theme around Spanish embroidery in this edition, along with creating designs using a continuous line of gold and details of a new kit that has just become available from the Goldwork Guild.

Please let's have your comments, the Guild needs to know it's doing a good job!
